Georgia Halts College Waivers to Illegal Aliens

The Board of Regents voted unanimously Wednesday to instruct the presidents of the state's public colleges to not grant any waivers to illegal aliens and nearly unanimously to review all applications for fall admission. The motions back up a May directive by the University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll Davis.

 

Georgia Lawmakers Pass E-Verify; Business Concerns Unfounded

After a political struggle that lasted until the last day of the session, the State Legislature on Thursday passed one of the strongest illegal immigration bills in the nation. Once signed by the Governor, the new law will, among other things, require businesses with 10 or more employees to enroll in E-Verify, a free federal web-based program through which employers can check the employment eligibility of their new hires.

Gwinnett Commission Should Make Informed Decision, Not Limit Options on Briscoe Field

This evening (Thursday), the County Commission will host a forum to hear public comments on the notion of privatizing Gwinnett’s airport, Briscoe Field, and allowing scheduled service. I call it a “notion” because, at the moment, it is little more than that. Contrary to the alarm being raised by some citizens, there are no jets ready to roll off the runway in Lawrenceville. Angry citizen activists are storming the courthouse, homeowners’ associations are in a tizzy, and City Councils are issuing proclamations… and all without a clue as to what they are railing against.
