McClain Announces For Gwinnett Commission District 1

Longtime Gwinnett County resident and business owner Laurie McClain announced her candidacy for the County Commission District 1 seat at a campaign kickoff event on Friday.

McClain is a Republican and a successful entrepreneur, operating her accounting firm - McClain & Company P.C. - in Suwanee. She has 24 years of experience as a certified public accountant working with businesses and individuals of high net worth.

"Now more than ever, Gwinnett County residents must have confidence that their Commissioners are strong business leaders demanding financial accountability for their tax dollars," McClain said. "I am ready to immediately address those needs by protecting and promoting the interests of our taxpayers. We can work together to overcome all the former problems and focus on doing what is right for our families."

McClain is an active and trusted leader in her community. She serves on the Gwinnett Water and Sewer Authority and was citizen-elected member of the Engage Gwinnett committee, which formed in 2008 to review service levels in county government.

She has completed her second year on the Commission Chairman's Citizens Budget Review Committee. Additionally, she served as treasurer, president and chairman for the boards for two different homeowner associations and has professionally managed as many as 24 communities at one time.

McClain also serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. She was voted the Chamber's "Ambassador of the Year" in 2007, and she is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett.

"We need real experience in corporate finance and commerce to help boost our county's standing as an economic development powerhouse," McClain said. "I have the professional background and personal commitment to help small businesses and large employers to grow, add to our tax base and bring more jobs to Gwinnett County."
