Everson Calls For Hilda Solis To Resign As Labor Secretary

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis should resign her post following nationally publicized accounts of her disregard for federal immigration and labor laws, Republican Melvin Everson said today.

Solis is the subject of numerous media reports with the launch of a taxpayer-funded campaign promoting a "fair wage" program for illegal immigrants. Those in this country illegally are encouraged to serve as whistleblowers by calling the U.S. Department of Labor regarding underpayment for work.

Everson said he is appalled by Solis' complete lack of regard for American citizens and strong support for immigrants living and working in this country illegally.

"There is no excuse for such an outreach effort to help legitimize this criminal behavior," Everson said. "American citizens are lining up at ballot boxes to say, 'We've had more than enough illegal immigration.' And yet here is a high-ranking federal official helping those breaking the law.

"There is nothing more for Hilda Solis to do but resign her post and leave office immediately," Everson continued.

As the leading Republican candidate for Georgia's Labor Commissioner, Everson said he is committed to bringing solid leadership to the position charged with overseeing the state's labor laws.

"I am dedicated to creating jobs and getting out-of-work Georgians back to work – not helping out our illegal aliens," Everson said. "I am committed to working for Georgians and providing the new leadership direction they demand from this office."
