Gwinnett Sunrise Rotary Club helps the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry
Written by The Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise
When the call goes out for help, the Gwinnett Sunrise Rotary club responds with enthusiasm. Laura Drake, Director of the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry, feeds hundreds of people a week. The SE Co-Op is a non-profit organization created to support those in our local community in need of food and financial assistance with utilities and mediation. This ministry is operated 100% through donations and is staffed by volunteers.
The SE Co-Op is located on the Community of Grace Church campus in two trailers. The trailers house the pantry storage and distribution center and the interviewing of recipients. The hours of operation are Monday – 10am to 2pm, Thursday – 3pm to 7pm, and Friday – 10am to 2pm. Donated Items can be dropped off during the normal Co-Op hours, however the co-op recommends dropping off from 10am to 12 noon on both Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise has volunteered at the SE Co-Op many times over the years and has chosen them to be their Great Days of Gwinnett service project. The Great Days of Gwinnett allows individual volunteers from businesses, school groups, scout troops and the like to participate in volunteer service projects around Gwinnett County. This year's Great Days of Service is scheduled for October 1st and 2nd. This year, on Saturday October 2nd, members of the club can be found painting the loading dock at the SE Co-Op.
The Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise if part of Rotary International, which is the world's first service organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise meets at Summit Chase Country club every Tuesday at 7:30 am. All are welcome.
