Tutus for Tatas Raise One Million Dollars for Susan G Komen for the Cure
Written by Tutus for Tatas
Tutus for Tatas, a team of men and women participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure, recently surpassed their original fundraising goal of ONE MILLION DOLLARS! This makes them one of the biggest fundraising teams in the nation.
The Tutus team was formed six years ago with only 28 members and has now grown to 76 walkers, more than half of whom are repeat participants. The 3Day is a 60 mile walk taking place in 15 cities across the nation to raise funds and awareness to fight breast cancer. Walkers commit to raise a minimum of $2300 in order to participate. They stay in camp, sleep in tents and shower in tractor trailers, leaving the comforts of family and home behind to raise awareness and fight breast cancer. So far in 2010 the team has raised over $70, 000 with their major fundraisers still on the horizon.
The Tutus team has really made an impact nationally. Tutu Lisa Mitchell, being a breast cancer survivor herself, is being featured as a "Luna Chix" in ads by Cliff Bars, member Christel Bethea was featured in the 2009 commercials for the national ad campaign for the Breast Cancer 3 Day. Both Christel and team founder Barb Mock are featured in the 3Day inspirational videos. Tutu alumni Trish Wiley was honored by Kroger & Kellogg's by being featured on Special K cereal boxes as an inspirational survivor .
We encourage you to come out and support the team at their upcoming 2010 fundraisers:
