Gail Zarnik, President of the Lilburn Woman's Club (LWC) along with fourteen other members of the LWC attended Institute 2010 of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education on the University of Georgia campus in Athens. More than 350 women from across the state of Georgia attended presentations designed to help Federation leaders raise support within their local clubs that will fill specific needs in their communities.
Members attended workshops presented by the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs (GaFWC) Community Service Program chairpersons in the Arts, International Affairs, Homelife, Education, Conservation and Public Affairs Programs. A new "plan of work" was distributed to club leaders filled with opportunities for them to implement projects that will improve life in their communities while building membership and developing leadership skills from now through 2012.
In addition to attending workshops and business sessions, members enjoyed the Saturday evening keynote speaker, retired UGA Coach and Athletic Director, Vince Dooley who shared football stories and passages from his new book, Vince Dooley's Garden, The Horticultural Journey of a Football Coach. Coach Dooley is also one of Georgia's finest gardeners and shared with members his gardening expertise.
Located in Washington D.C., the General Federation of Women's Clubs is a unifying force, bringing together local women who are dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With over 100,000 members in every state and more than a dozen countries, GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward world peace and understanding.
