New Antique Shop Offers a Haven for Writers

Shopkeeper, Barbara Barth, loves writing. Her book, "The Unfaithful Widow", placed as a finalist in the 2011 USA Best Books Awards. She in a contributor to many blogs, including The Balancing Act, Lifetime Television's morning show for women (she is the CEO of Life on their online site Mondays), Silver & Grace, a website for women aging beautifully after forty, Skirt.com, and The Lawrenceville Patch. She is known as Writer With Dogs to many and helps promote animal rescue groups with her book sales.

Her shop, opened October lst this year, is an antique/gift shop with a twist. The large, cozy back room is a haven for writers. Barth started the Gwinnett County Writers Guild, hosted by author Emilie P. Bush, which meets the second and fourth Thursday each month. There is a monthly book club, and now Third Fridays Writers Open Mic is in full swing, hosted by playwright, Evan Guilford-Blake. Hollywood writer/producer Elisa Bowman is onboard as the shop's screenwriting teacher, offering a class this month and two five week workshops beginning in January 2012. "Writing a Professional Screenplay" (for beginners beginning 1/14/12) and "The Secrets to Refining Your Screenplay" beginning 1/21/2012).

Other authors scheduled for classes and workshops in the new year are Emilie P. Bush (Publishing in the 2lst Century), Evan Guilford-Blake, (Playwriting workshop), author Lisa Baron ("Life Of The Party" five week memoir writing class). More classes are in the works. All events are open to the public, some classes have small fees, and the writers guild and book club are free.

December author writing events include December 3rd, author JoAnn Dunn, from 1 to 4 PM. Dunn is the author of seven books and a previous nominee for Georgia Writer Of The Year, will be selling and autographing her Mystery book series written with the LitChix, under the name Georgia Adams. December 8, meeting The Gwinnett County Writer's Guild at 7PM, December 9, book club at 7PM, December "Third Fridays Open Mic" 7PM ($3 to listen, $5 to read, space limited), featuring author Jennie Helderman, "As The Sycamore Grows", and December 17, screenwriting class with Elisa Bowman, 10AM. "Getting Started On Your First Screenplay" ($25, space limited).
